Special visitors

Jennie, her mom Mollie, me, and the girls
Besides having a very successful pregnancy after years of trying and having three healthy girls, I have really enjoyed the added benefit of being able to see and talk to people that I have not seen in awhile. While I was pregnant and now with the birth of the triplets, I have talked and seen so many of my good friends and family I had not heard from in while. Friends that I see or talk occasionally, I have seen more frequently. Such a joy! Rekindling these relationships has been special to me, getting me through the rough times of being pregnant with triplets and now the sleepless nights or 3 simultaneous cries.  Monday I got a call from my dad about a long time friend he had heard was in town. I called her immediately hoping she was able to come visit. Jennie is from Corpus and we went to Southwestern together. Jennie moved to the Arctic tundra of Minnesota after college and we always seemed to miss each other during holidays. We have kept in touch through email, my father, and our favorite occupational therapist, Anita in Corpus. Although a short visit, I really enjoyed seeing Jennie, Anita, and Mollie and look forward to seeing them again very soon! Stay warm Jennie!

Another highlight of our short trip to Corpus, besides the girls meeting the great grandmother Dee, spending lots of time with their great grandmother Mimi, and hanging out with their great aunt and uncle, was having lunch with my mom's Monday lunch group! These ladies and others threw me a 5 star triplet shower and have been so supportive. The nine of us, plus the triplets, had a great lunch on Monday at our house. It was great for them to meet the girls and for my mom to see her good friends.

My mom and I had an uneventful trip back home. The girls did wonderfully in the car and all the careful planning paid off. We were counting down the hours and minutes till the Doula came that night. We were exhausted on Tuesday night!

The girls are doing well and growing a lot. Their Mia (my mom) has them in developmental bootcamp to get ready for their visit with the developmental pediatrician this coming Wednesday. The girls were 7 weeks premature and had low birth weight, so developmentally they are delayed. Right now at 2 months and 12 days chronologically, they are acting like newborns and really are 24 days old if you adjust for weeks premature. This appointment was arranged by the NICU doctors and the girls will be followed by a developmental pediatrician till they are 3 years of age, in addition to their regular pediatrician visits. Their chronological age will be corrected for prematurity until they reach about 2 years of age. While age correction is most meaningful in the first year of life, a few months in age can continue to make a difference in what is expected of a child at least through pre-school.

I am writing this post with the twins asleep on my lap. I love ending the day snuggling with the girls, especially since I started working (very part time) again. MDM and I visit by FaceTime every night so he can see and talk to the girls. I wish so very much he could be here to snuggle with the five of us  every night. :) Soon!

  1. So nice to see and be with old friends! Thanks for the info about development of premies. I wish I could talk to my mom about my development, because I was born a month prematurely and never thought to ask what I was like at the beginning. Oh, well..... It is good that you are writing so much, because the girls will like to read about themselves when they are older!
